OUR GUIDE TO SEVILLE

Seville is such a charming and cultural city, and incredibly easy to explore: small and walkable, with something beautiful at every corner. The mix of Arab and Roman influence is everywhere, from the impressive palaces and cathedrals to the intricate tile work and even the music.

We visited  recently, a weekend in September, and the weather was perfect.. Visiting during the early fall or spring is ideal, as you can enjoy the city’s beauty without the overwhelming hot temperatures of the summer.

Sevilla truly tiene un color especial, with its warm, inviting atmosphere made even brighter by the kindness of its people, who welcome you with open arms and a smile at every turn. The city is alive in every street, all filled with orange trees, flamenco music echoing through the alleys, hidden courtyards and moorish townhouses telling stories of a rich cultural past.

Many of the city’s old properties have been carefully converted into cool places to stay, or cervecerias and tapas bars, while remaining steeped in heritage.

Next time, we’re hoping to return in full festive mode for the Feria de Abril. Maybe we’ll get lucky enough to be invited by some Sevillan friends to join the party!

CASA DE PILATOS

Probably our favorite visit in Seville! We were absolutely captivated by Casa de Pilatos, with its stunning blend of Mudejar, classical architecture, and Renaissance art. The central courtyard, featuring a lovely fountain, intricate tiles, and elegant arches, is breathtaking. The garden in the back, brimming with flowers and plants, is equally enchanting. We visited in the morning, and it was pleasantly uncrowded.

Casco Antiguo, Sevilla

One of Seville's must-see gems is the Real Alcázar, a masterpiece of Andalusian architecture from the Muslim period. The highlight is the stunning Patio de las Doncellas, with its graceful fountains and intricate arches, along with the magnificent gardens. Be sure to book your tickets in advance, as the Alcázar is a popular attraction and often crowded. Also, beware of unofficial websites when purchasing tickets.

BARRIO DE TRIANA

When we asked locals about Triana, they compared it to Soho for its vibrant and artistic atmosphere. To get there, you cross the Guadalquivir River, which adds a touch of magic to the experience, and you might even enjoy a sunset drink by the river before diving into Triana’s lively tapas bars, flamenco shows, and ceramic shops. The area’s bustling streets, energetic vibe, and picturesque river views make it a must-visit at night.

El Rinconcillo is an old-school tapas bar that has been around since the 17th century, making it a true historical landmark in Seville. This iconic spot offers fantastic food and an authentic old-world atmosphere, complete with waiters in traditional uniforms. While you can enjoy tapas standing at the bar without a reservation, we booked a table in the restaurant as we were a large group. As lovers of historic watering holes,  it didn’t disappoint.

Another institution recommended by Sevillian friends. Robles is high-end restaurant that has been a cornerstone of Andalusian gastronomy since 1954. Known for its excellent quality and professionalism, this classic spot offers top-notch seafood, jamón, caña de lomo, and traditional “cuchara” dishes. The restaurant is part of the Robles group, which also owns other notable establishments like Robles Laredo, a historic café in town. (They serve exceptional artisan pastries.)

El Comercio is the best place for breakfast in Seville, offering an authentic, spanish lively morning scene. This small, bustling hole-in-the-wall is filled with a diverse crowd—men in suits grabbing their morning coffee, families, and a few curious tourists blending in with the locals. The waiters are constantly on the move, serving up coffees and the café's specialty: thick, round churros, which are uniquely available all day, including at lunchtime.

This small, unpretentious restaurant with a cozy terrace is a local favorite for tapas and beers. Located in a residential neighborhood, it offers a great variety of tapas at reasonable prices. It may not be luxurious, but it excels in quality and value. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making it a great spot to enjoy a casual meal. It’s lively and loud, just as Seville should be, with a bustling atmosphere that adds to its charm.

MARISCOS EMILIO

Triana, Sevilla

We haven't been to Mariscos Emilio, but it’s known as a classic, family-friendly bar in Seville with a retro vibe reminiscent of the 1980s. You can sign up on a list to sit at the bar or at one of the high tables. The seafood is a great mix of raw and cooked fish, offered at very good prices.  A good sign of freshness: some items may not be available if they weren't up to standard at the market that day.

A must for anyone exploring Seville. Nestled in the heart of the city near Alameda de Hércules, this historic market, dating back to 1719, is a vibrant hub of culinary life. The bustling atmosphere and well-preserved buildings make it a standout destination. You can find a variety of dishes from seafood to tortillitas, meats, and more. Be sure to check out stands like Jaleo Sevilla and Condende. Just outside the market, El Rey de la Cerveza serves up refreshing beers and tiny shrimps.

MERCADO DE FERIA

CONFITERIA LA CAMPANA

Stepping into Confitería La Campana is like traveling back in time to the early 19th century. The atmosphere is steeped in history, with the hustle and bustle of the staff moving between wooden counters and glass display cases. The air is filled with the aroma of sugar set against a backdrop of colorful plasterwork on the ceilings and walls. Among their offerings, the typical Santa Clara yemas (made with two eggs here) stand out as a unique delicacy not found anywhere else.

Casco Antiguo, Sevilla

A modern tapas bar a bit off the beaten path, away from the typical tourist streets. Although the prices are slightly higher compared to other spots in the city, the experience is considered to be truly exceptional. The setting, beautifully located at the foot of a church, looks super charming. The tapas look incredible, and the desserts we heard are simply out of this world. It’s the one place we missed and now regret not having tried—it looks absolutely stunning.
